Fuel tanker trailers are made of carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum and range in size from 20,000 liters to 65,000 liters. Although some tanks have only one compartment for fuel storage, most modern tanks consist of four, five, or six compartments to allow different cargo or grades of the same type of product to be loaded simultaneously if necessary.

These trailers are fitted with large plates, called baffles, that extend from the side and consist of holes that allow fluid movement to slow down during maneuvers, such as slowing down and turning sharply.These units have a flexible system to prevent oil tank spills. They also have a steam recovery system for cleaner, faster and safer handling.Standard loads include diesel, petroleum (gasoline), ethanol and kerosene.
